Effective July 1st, 2005, DuPont Dow Elastomers, the joint venture company between DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont and will be called DuPont Performance Elastomers. DuPont Dow's Viton fluoroelastomers, Viton FreeFlow™, Kalrez perfluoroelastomer parts, Neoprene synthetic rubber, Hypalon chlorosulfonated polyethylene and Vertex seal technology businesses will remain with the subsidiary. DuPont Dow's current president and CEO, Jack Lewis, will continue in that role for DuPont Performance Elastomers. In announcing the company's name, Lewis said, "With the launch of DuPont Performance Elastomers, we are building on the success of the former joint venture, as a customer-focused provider of best-in-class elastomers and sealing solutions - combining the responsiveness of a small company with the commitment and reach of a global enterprise." According to Lewis, DuPont Dow Elastomers has been a successful concept, demonstrating that an organization dedicated to elastomers markets, taking a portfolio approach and bringing innovative technology, brings value to customers and to the industry. "As we become DuPont Performance Elastomers, we will remain a company focused exclusively on elastomers. We hope to continue to be the first place to go when there is an elastomeric need and we are committed to maintaining the high quality standards and reliable performance we have delivered for nearly 10 years," he said. "Customers can expect the company to continue to develop technology innovations that enable improved performance of our products in their applications, as well as to expand the performance capabilities our products provide." DuPont Performance Elastomers will continue to have a growth mission, according to Lewis. Growth will come through the expansion of its current businesses, new innovations and growing with customers in emerging markets such as China. "We will grow because we will continue to deliver performance when it matters." DuPont Dow's Engage® polyolefin elastomers, Nordel® hydrocarbon rubber and Tyrin® chlorinated polyethylene, will be part of Dow's Specialty Plastics and Elastomers business unit.
